KAYLEE HARWOOD - DIRECTOR

RESUME

BIO:

Kaylee Harwood (she/her) is a west-coast raised director, performer, and educator based in Toronto. Her work as a performer spans from the Stratford & Shaw Festivals to Broadway, National Tours & Radio City Music Hall.

As a director, she most recently helmed the world premiere of a triptych of new site-specific Canadian musicals based on Mavis Gallant short stories entitled Retold (Musical Stage Company) at the Toronto Reference Library. Kaylee directed In Studio: The Words and Music of Britta Johnson (Theatre Sheridan), Now What? The Art of Moving On (co-conceiver/director, Musical Stage Company), and a workshop of the new musical Meat (Musical Stage Company). This fall, she’ll be staging and dramaturging Uncovered: Fleetwood Mac & The Eagles at Koerner Hall in Toronto for Musical Stage Company.

Kaylee has worked as an assistant director to director Ray Hogg on Controlled Damage (The Grand) and Dixon Road (Musical Stage Company), and to director Robert McQueen on Boy Falls From the Sky (Mirvish).

As a choreographer, Kaylee worked on Much Ado About Nothing, Emma, Pride and Prejudice and Fixing Christmas for SAMC Theatre at Trinity Western University. She teaches private singing lessons, coaches auditions, and has led workshops at the Stratford Festival, University of Toronto, Trinity Western University, and Michigan State University.

Kaylee is the recipient of the Kathleen C. Freeman Leadership Development Fund and has spent two seasons as an RBC Apprentice Director at Musical Stage Company in Toronto. She is a member of the Canadian Guild of Directors and Choreographers (CGDC) and the Association of Acting Coaches and Educators (AACE). She has a green card and is able to work in both Canada and the US.

Kaylee believes this craft can be a window into humanity’s best and worst and the sheer rigour and imagination of theatre-making proves what is possible. She understands firmly that courage in the craft is strengthened and upheld by safe and compassionate workplaces, studios and classrooms.
